1
The irrational fear is gone, but now Alexander's fear is entirely rational. He's lost, alone, injured and bleeding. The tree tries to calm him and get him to breathe and focus. There! There is a break in the canopy that lets you work out the direction. James is a rogue element, but Alexander knows Vivek well. They passed a church on the way with a tall spire. Vivek will probably go there.
2
Alexander remembers being seven and watching his father preaching. James's mind leaks in, speaking of his own father who was also a preacher, but Alexander's father believed in a gospel of love and forgiveness. James's father saw a world of demons. James is close, probing at his defences and filling him with dread.
3
Alexander comes across a sculpture, which is part of an art trail. He keeps walking, but James gains his scent. Focus, Alexander, and block him out! He remembers Vivek, a moment from years ago, and suddenly it's all okay. His mind is his own once more.
4
Alexander is flagging. He is so very tired. You can hear James's thoughts, but are they real, or is that just want he wants you to think? James is planning to build a trap! Alexander sees it for a moment before he wrenches his mind away. A sculpture ahead, hanging from a rotten tree. He keeps running.
5
The connection between Alexander and James is stronger, carrying thought and memory and emotion between them. James speaks directly to him, and says that he must understand why it has to be destroyed to save the world. Alexander does not see it as a corruption, but as joy. James insists that sin always feels good. And Alexander sees that James enjoyed killing those people, drew pleasure from it. James is the one in the devil's power, not the people he killed. He runs towards the trap.
6
Alexander sees the trap, and James is waiting, albeit hidden. You wait, coiled inside him as the tree falls, and when Alexander leaps out of its way, you leap into James's mind. For one second, you control him, and fling his body beneath the falling sculpture, trapping him. His mind surrounds yours, holds it for a killing blow... but the music hummed by Alexander calls you back to him. You are both wounded, but he has reached the church. Vivek has lit a signal fire to call Alexander home, and he is waiting.
