1
It is dark where Alexander and Vivek are, and there is a river nearby. They have driven many hours to get here, and Alexander leads you through the forest by instinct. He knows who you are going to meet. Alexander talks about music and how it can make your heartbeat and brainwaves match up with those of other people. He hadn't wanted to go to the MaxBass festival, but had been persuaded by friends. He'd ignored most of the music, but when that specific music played, he had to listen and it brought them all together. Natalie is nearby. Run!
2
Natalie feels Alexander, and the closer they are – the further north they go – the more they are able to sense each other. Alexander and Vivek jump into a boat with Natalie and Shoshanna. Alexander and Natalie embrace, and it feels like a completed circuit. They're heading towards an island in the centre of a reservoir where Alexander thinks they will have to use the Tarxian mask. But there is another sensitive on the island – someone Alexander has never felt before.
3
In the centre of the island is a twisted, pearlescent tower. Alexander and Natalie compare notes about what it is like to have the seed in their head, the music they hear when you are with them. They hear someone clearing their throat, but Vivek and Shoshanna hear nothing. The signal is weak, but they recognise the person as Targeting Office Styles. Styles says that the island is going to come into alignment in the next few minutes and you need to get to the top of the tower. Here comes the music...
4
The island is rotating slowly, and the water is draining from the lake. A spiral is emerging, the same shape you saw in the Nahanni valley, in the bafflers at the MaxBass festival, and as the pinfeathers of the Tarxien mask. Styles says that the island is a transmitter, built by the people who ran the project and that when it comes into alignment, you can free the tree. The tree says that this is a lie. Styles says that someone needs to wear the mask and blow the whistle, then they'll be able to tune into the amplified waves of the tree. Styles can see that her lies have been detected. She doesn't want to help the tree, but she does want to find it and she needs the mask. She has a gun and takes the mask. You hear Robert, who says that shamanic objects like the mask can give powers to a person, but if they aren't ready, the results can be bad. Follow Styles up the tower!
5
Alexander says that Styles wasn't the head of the project and she doesn't know any more about how this works than they do. Shoshanna asks where the people are who do know. Natalie says that no-one knows! They're all dead. They worked on a 60-year project, and just when they had the alien consciousness trapped and a transmitter to speak to it... the zombie apocalypse happened. Everyone who knew more is now a zombie. Which is funny, but the water is rising, so keep moving!
6
You reach the top and see the transmitter in the spiral of water. Styles feels the mask trying to speak with her. The island aligns once a month for a few minutes, and for a few minutes, the tree is able to call more strongly. Styles wants to wear the mask, but she holds back, remembering her mother's warnings about sacred objects. She still looks into the mask's eyes and it is enough. She hears the music and she knows how to do this now! You need to see from her perspective!
